“Life is just a game played out for no reason, so there is no need one shouldn’t try to achieve everything one wants. After all, life is nothing but a series of sensations. So one may as well try and make oneself extraordinary, extraordinary and brilliant, even if it means becoming a brilliant fool like me and having the kind of disastrous life that I have had.” – Francis Bacon

This compilation of films from 1902 to 1989 celebrate the contributions made by the South Asian diaspora to the United Kingdom. This compelling collection illustrates how the relationship between Britain and the region was made inextricable by Empire; its dissolution, and often painful legacy, and ultimately, how people originally from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh has enriched life in the UK.

Trowbridge Laughs has been programmed by Backyard Comedy Club supported by an old friend of Trowbridge, Lee Hurst who headlined out first Trowbridge Arts Festival and had a sell out Gig at The Arc Theatre.

We plan to create a comedy club at Town Hall Arts that brings some of the best comedians to Trowbridge from London and beyond. Our first gig will offer a compere and 3 comedians for a full night which we know will ensure ‘Trowbridge Laughs’.

Come along, let us know what you think and if you like it we’ll make it a monthly event in the new year.
